WITCiH First Birthday

WITCiH at The Barge House, London N1 4/10/17

It’s been an amazing first year for Bishi’s WITCiH salons series - Women In Technology Creative Industries Hub. Bringing together creators, performers and technologists from all kinds of fields, the events have seen inventors, visual artists, and even an aerialist share their work, including some big names in music and tech such as Imogen Heap. The birthday celebration was a brilliant show of WITCiH power – melodically, technically and politically.

Omnii Collective

The night began with the impressive Naomi and Francine from Omnii Collective, a London organisation for female and non-binary producers, engineers, and sound manipulators. Inspired by DJ collectives, and the lack of females in the Goldsmiths University music studios, Omnii run workshops and skills swaps and recently worked with Red Bull Studios on a #NormalNotNovelty workshop. Omnii are presenting Gudrun Gut’s Monika Werkstatt at Café Oto on 19th November, with support from Omnii’s La Leif.

Vicky O’Neon

Vicky O’Neon is an incredible performer who creates her dynamic set around her drumming and her self-built electronics. Bright in sound, vision, and attitude, her songs included a chart-worthy hook-laden ‘Dump Trump’ tune, and she showed us round her gear afterwards.

An award-winning drummer who has performed with Hans Zimmer, Vicky has created a prototype drum, working with Magnatrack who make drum triggers out of magnets. She is also co-founder of the educational charity Girls Rock London.

Bishi

WITCiH founder Bishi had been filming a new music video for her EP release, and announced she has an Artist Residency at National Sawdust in New York for 2018 where she will be composing and performing a new Electro-Choral Song Cycle: BISHI: The Good Immigrant.

Mesmerising the crowd with her beautiful electro-pop and sitar playing, she performed unreleased new music. Bishi recently headlined the Nasty Women UK opening night, and was heading off at the end of the week to bring WITCiH to The Future Is Female event in Cardiff, along with Lone Taxidermist.

Lone Taxidermist

Lone Taxidermist performed a compelling work in progress that made you laugh, wince and fight back tears. Setting haunting live music and unsettling effects to cringe-making footage of beauty treatments in action it was an ‘up yours’ to beauty bloggers, beauty norms, and the tragic hysteria of lip challenges on social media. Brilliant and thought-provoking. Check out the recently-released debut album ‘Trifle’ from Lone Taxidermist / Natalie Sharp.
