Martin Guitars is a family-run firm based in Pennsylvania that has been making guitars for 175 years. It invented the Dreadnought Guitar with a larger guitar body, squared off shape and the neck attached at the 14th fret. Another innovation was the X-bracing system for the guitar top which gives the instruments their distinctive tone - a brilliant treble and powerful bass response. The company has produced signature models with artists such as Eric Clapton, and also an MTV Unplugged guitar.
