This award-winning Rikhi Ram Musical Instruments company was founded in Lahore by leading sitar player and instrument maker Rikhi Ram, and is now based in Delhi, India. Rikhi Ram Musical Instruments make high quality classical Indian string instruments primarily the sitar and the tanpura, that are known for superb tone. It was here that The Beatles’ George Harrison received his first sitar lesson from the founder’s son. The company has had a close association with the Shankar family, making instruments for the late Ravi Shankar and his daughter Anoushka Shankar, and sells several models of Pt. Ravi Shankar style sitar. The family business is now in the hands of Rikhi Ram’s grandson Sanjay Sharma, and innovations include a scaled down Studio Sitar and a Travelling Sarod.
