SWR Amps make bass amps, heads, cabs, and acoustic combos. The company was founded in California by Steve W. Rabe, and made its first amps in 1984, starting with the “hybrid” full-range bass amplifier, the PB-200 (later to become the SM-400) with semi-parametric EQ, side-chain effects loops and the Aural Enhancer tone-shaping circuit, renowned for great studio sounds. This was followed by products like the Redhead combo amp and Strawberry Blonde Acoustic Amp and Megoliath 8x10 1,200-watt cabinet, all made in Southern California.
