We Are Robots - new Music and Tech Festival

New festival We Are Robots presents an amazing line-up at the Old Truman Brewery in London from 2-5 November. Focusing on the ‘future and innovation of music’ it features performances, installations, workshops, discussions, technology, and an industry conference, and includes leading names and exciting newcomers, with Daniel Miller DJ-ing at the after party. Tickets to the main exhibition are free, with performance, panels and workshop tickets available separately.

Industry Conference

We Are Robots’ Industry Conference is hosted by Tony Nwachukwu (CDR Projects), and looks at the future of Radio, Production, Interactive Entertainment, and Women in the Music Industry. Speakers include Chagall, Martyn Ware, Dr. Mariana Lopez and Martin Klang.

Student Sessions

Martyn Ware (interviewed here about his sound) is also one of the speakers at the Student Sessions, appearing at the Future of Music and Education, along with Do It Kits’ Helen Steer, Milton Mermikides, and Chelsea Bruno.

Exhibitors

Exhibitors include Ableton, Arturia, Audio-Technica, Genelec, Moog, Native Instruments, SubPac, and Tileyard Education, and there will be masterclasses, workshops and the chance to get hands on with the latest kit.

Installations

There are installations such as the interactive immersive Post-Truth and Beauty by Tim Murray-Browne and Aphra Shemza, and work by Yuri Suzuki.

We Are Robots are also collaborating with Rough Trade, Warp Records and Bibio, to present the Worldwide premiere Audio-Visual installation of Phantom Brickworks, in The Boiler House on Brick Lane.

The Penelopes

Performance

Live music plays a big part in the event, with Ableton presenting Chagall, Petrichor, and Rachel K Collier on Thursday 2nd. On Friday 3rd new music champion Chris Hawkins of BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 presents The Penelopes (interviewed on Kitmonsters), Malka, Little Cub, NSDOS, Manaré and d’Voxx. While Saturday 4th sees the official We Are Robots after party with Daniel Miller DJ-ing, plus music by Arden, Warm Digits, Mt. Wolf.

Workshops

Teenage Engineering are running workshops to launch their Electronic Music School in the UK, and there are also workshops from Ableton, Music Hackspace with Victor Mazon, Do It Kits, Point Blank, Serato, POLYTIK, and Hackoustic.

Hackoustic’s Tom Fox and Tim Yates have put together a Hackoustic Village with works and performances from 40 artists including Look Mum No Computer’s show-stopping synth bike, the incredible Jenn Kirby, and DADAMachines who we’ve previously featured.

Free tickets for the exhibition are available via the Dice App, Facebook event guest list, or on site on the day.
